MEET THE WAVIES WAS CREATED TO SHOW LOVE TO THE UNIQUE HAIRSTYLE OF WAVING. HIGHLIGHTING UNDERREPRESENTED BLACK WOMEN IN BOTH THE NATURAL HAIR AND BEAUTY AISLE CONVERSATIONS. FEATURING PHOTOGRAPHS OF FOUR BLACK WOMEN DOING WHAT THEY DO BEST: BEING THEMSELVES WHILE TAKING CARE OF THE CROWNS ON THEIR HEADS.

THIS CAMPAIGN IS A CLOSE, INTIMATE LOOK AT THE RELATIONSHIP BLACK WOMEN HAVE WITH THEIR HAIR. MAKING HISTORY AS THE FIRST TO EXCLUSIVELY SHOW BLACK WOMEN WAVERS. WAVING IS A HAIRSTYLE OFTEN OVERLOOKED FOR BLACK WOMEN WITH NATURAL HAIR. SEEKING TO SHARE STORIES FROM AROUND THE WORLD, AND THE WORLD AROUND US.

BECAUSE IF HAIR IS THE CANVAS, WAVES ARE JUST THE PAINT. SO GET READY FOR THE WAVIES TO MAKE A SPLASH!

“BEING A WAVIE MEANS HAVING CONFIDENCE AND SELF-ESTEEM. IT’S BEING COMFORTABLE WITH WHO YOU ARE! GIVING OTHERS THEIR SHINE, BUT NEVER LETTING THEIR LIGHT DIM YOURS.”

“BEING A WAVIE MEANS BEING THE UNDERDOG. PEOPLE DON’T THINK WOMEN CAN [ROCK] WAVES, THINK AGAIN!”

“FOR MANY, A WOMAN WITH WAVES IS TOO BOLD OR TOO MASCULINE. MY DECISION TO KEEP MY HAIR LOW AND SPINNING WAS MADE CONFIDENTLY.

WITH OR WITHOUT HAIR, I CARRY MYSELF WITH GRACE, STRENGTH, AND BEAUTY BECAUSE BEING A WAVIE IS A FEARLESS ROLE. A ROLE THAT EVERYONE ISN’T WILLING TO FULFILL.”

“[BEING A WAVIE] MEANS TO BE A BADA** NO MATTER WHAT. IT’S BEING COMFORTABLE ACCEPTING YOUR HAIR, FLAWS AND ALL. LETTING GO OF YOUR ATTACHMENTS [TO HAIR], AND REINVENTING YOURSELF. AND MOST OF ALL, KEEPING THOSE WAVES SPINNIN’ HARDER THAN THE MEN! *LAUGHS*
