Spread The Warmth is a Children’s Clothing Drive launched by WavyWMN in Fall 2021. The impact of the Coronavirus pandemic has affected us all very greatly. As thousands are left without jobs and homes, along with facing a lifted Eviction Moratorium. In addition to post-Covid long-term health issues that many are dealing with. Despite these factors, many over look the children who’s lives changed greatly.
Ensuring we take care of the very community that raised us, Spread The Warmth was born. Spread The Warmth seeks to help supply donated brand-new and gently used clothing to shelters and community-based organizations. Teaming up with local Black-owned businesses in Brooklyn, and a non-profit organization.
In our first year of operation, we were able to successfully donate over 200 items of winter clothing. The proceeds distributed to two Brooklyn shelters, and P.S./I.S. 109 located in East Flatbush. As of the 2021-22 school year, roughly 25 percent of the school’s population live in temporary housing.
Through the amazing support of our community, Spread The Warmth created a Holiday shopping experience for the families of P.S./I.S. 109. Working closely with the Community Revitalization Partnership, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization providing counseling directly to the school.
November 2021 saw the kickoff of Spread The Warmth in Brooklyn, NY. Our donation drop offs being Amani Market and The Stoop Barber Shop; located in Crown Heights and Bedford-Stuyvesant, respectively.
Although this a small step towards change, WavyWMN is proud to do our part in making a difference. Initially, the clothing drive was specifically for children. However, we have also collected clothing for adults during the 2021 holiday season. Marking the first of many events giving back to our communities selflessly.
In doing so, we urge and encourage you to help us keep spreading the warmth this season.
